Black Magik is for riders who want a clean, dry wax coating without removing the chain or melting wax. Apply it to a clean chain, let it dry for at least 12 hours and ride.
The water in the liquid carries the wax particles into the chain. As it evaporates, it leaves a hard wax coating based on Black Diamond's 11+1 formula. The chain does not stay oily and the sprockets and jockey wheels do not collect the same black paste as they do with conventional chain oils.

As your only chain lubricant
You can use Black Magik without hot waxing. For the first treatment, start with a clean chain with all old oil or factory grease removed.
Let the wax dry for at least 12 hours. The dry chain will feel stiff at first but loosens up quickly on the first ride. Excess surface wax flakes off, leaving the lubricating wax inside the chain.
Between hot-wax treatments
Wipe the chain's surface with a cloth, apply Black Magik and let it dry. You can hot-wax the chain again later without a solvent clean.

Black Magik or Black Diamond Hot Wax?
Choose Black Magik when you want to wax the chain while it is still on the bike or quickly top up a hot-waxed chain.
Choose Black Diamond Hot Wax when you want to remove the chain and immerse it fully in melted wax.
Black Magik also works on its own. There is no need to hot-wax the chain first.

How to use Black Magik
- Clean the chain before the first treatment. Remove the factory grease from a new chain. A previously hot-waxed chain only needs a surface wipe.
- Gently turn the bottle over a few times. There is no need to shake it vigorously.
- Shift the chain to an outermost sprocket on the cassette. A slight angle in the chainline helps the wax reach inside the rollers.
- Apply wax to the top and underside of the chain while turning the cranks.
- Run the chain through several full revolutions so the wax reaches every link.
- Let the wax dry for at least 12 hours before riding.
After a wet ride, wipe the chain dry and apply fresh wax. Black Magik is not intended for topping up mid-ride because it needs time to dry properly.
