Once your chain is properly clean, Black Diamond keeps things simple. Dip the chain, let the wax cool and put the chain back on the bike. The result is a dry wax coating that does not pick up dust and grit the way an oily chain does.
Your drivetrain stays cleaner, without the same black paste building up on the sprockets and jockey wheels. Leave the used wax in the melting pot and reheat it for the next treatment.

One pack, two wax blends
The pack contains eleven light-coloured Rex wax blocks and one black Black Diamond additive block. The black block is hand-cast at Rex's product development laboratory in Hartola, Finland.
11+1 for all-round use
Melt all twelve blocks together. This gives you an all-conditions wax blend for year-round road, gravel and mountain biking.
4+1 for long rides and races
Melt the black additive block with four light-coloured wax blocks. This makes a blend with a higher additive concentration for long rides and races.
The remaining seven light-coloured blocks can be used as a cleaning pre-wax bath. This keeps the main 4+1 blend cleaner and usable for longer.
Black Diamond Hot Wax or Black Magik?
Choose Black Diamond Hot Wax when you want to immerse the chain and get the full benefit of hot waxing in one treatment.
Choose Rex Black Magik 180 ml when you want to wax the chain without removing it from the bike or top up a hot-waxed chain between rides.

How to hot-wax your chain
- Remove the factory grease from a new chain or thoroughly clean an old oiled chain. A previously hot-waxed chain only needs rinsing with hot water and drying thoroughly.
- Melt the wax over a gentle heat. There is no need to heat it above 100 °C.
- Immerse the dry chain in the wax. Let the chain warm up and move it around so the wax reaches inside the links.
- Lift the chain out and let it cool. The chain becoming stiff tells you the wax has cooled inside it.
- Flex the links and refit the chain. It will loosen up fully during the first few kilometres of riding.
Rewax the chain when the drivetrain starts to become noticeably louder. Before the next treatment, you can rinse the chain with hot water, wipe it down and dry it.
Top up between hot-wax treatments
Black Magik liquid wax can extend the time between immersion treatments. Wipe the chain, apply Black Magik and let it dry for at least 12 hours.
A chain treated with Black Magik can later go straight back into hot wax without another solvent clean. A surface wipe is enough.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reuse the same wax?
Yes. Leave the cooled wax in the melting pot and reheat it for as long as there is enough left. Clean the chain before each treatment to keep grit and dirt out of the wax.
How often should I wax my chain?
The interval depends on the weather, the chain and how much you ride. A noticeably louder chain is a practical sign that it is time to rewax.
Can I wax several chains at once?
Yes. You can treat several clean, dry chains in the same bath of melted wax.
Does every top-up need to be another hot-wax treatment?
No. You can use Black Magik to top up a hot-waxed chain between immersion treatments.
