Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 based on my experience

Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 is a dual-sided SPD power meter pedal for mountain biking, gravel riding and cyclocross. Each pedal has its own power sensor, allowing you to see your total power as well as the power produced separately by your left and right legs.

I have used the MX-2 pedals for more than 18 months in training and racing. The pedals have been used on Finnish forest trails, in mud, freezing temperatures, rocky terrain and on longer gravel rides. I also used them during the 2024 Finnish XCM Championship race at Tahko MTB.

Based on my long-term experience, the main strengths of the MX-2 are accurate power measurement, long battery life and durability in demanding off-road riding. Because the power meter is installed just like a regular pedal, it can easily be moved from one bike to another.

Who is the Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 for?

I recommend the MX-2 to riders who want reliable power data from both training and racing.

The MX-2 is particularly well suited for:

  • Mountain biking
  • Gravel riding
  • Cyclocross
  • Structured power-based training
  • Monitoring left and right leg balance
  • Use with multiple bikes
  • Riders using Shimano SPD-compatible shoes

Dual-sided measurement is especially useful when you want to monitor the balance between your legs or changes in your pedalling. Differences may become more noticeable because of fatigue, injury, changes in riding position or a heavy training load.

My experience with MX-2 measurement accuracy

I have compared the power measured by the Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 with the readings from a Tacx Neo 2T smart trainer. The results have remained consistent, including during demanding workouts.

Favero specifies a measurement accuracy of ±1%. The pedals’ IAV Power System uses a three-axis gyroscope and accounts for variations in pedalling during every power calculation. The system is also compatible with oval chainrings.

Comparable measurements are what matter most in practice. When a power meter behaves consistently from one workout to another, your development, training load and race performances can be compared reliably.

Can the MX-2 handle real mountain biking?

My MX-2 pedals have been exposed to mud, water, freezing temperatures and rock strikes. The pedals have held up in use and power measurement has continued to work normally despite the demanding conditions.

The pedal body is made from 6061-T6 aluminium. The electronics and rechargeable battery are protected inside the pedal spindle. There are no electronics inside the pedal body, so a worn or damaged pedal body can be replaced without replacing the entire power meter.

The IP67 rating helps protect the pedals against water, mud and dust.

Easy to move between bikes

The MX-2 is installed in the same way as a regular pedal. There is no need to install a separate magnet or sensor on the crank.

The pedals can be moved from a mountain bike to a gravel bike, for example. This is useful if you want to use the same power meter with several bikes and keep your training data comparable.

The pedals are compatible with the Shimano SPD system. SPD-compatible cleats are included in the package.

Battery life and charging

Favero specifies a battery life of up to 160 hours on a single charge. The batteries are charged using magnetic charging connectors and both pedals can be charged simultaneously.

The rechargeable batteries mean that there is no need to replace disposable batteries. The magnetic charging connectors can be attached without removing the pedals from the bike.

According to Favero, a 15-minute fast charge provides approximately 15 hours of riding time.

Connectivity and compatibility

The Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 transmits data using Bluetooth and ANT+. The pedals can be connected to a compatible bike computer, sports watch or training application.

They work with many Garmin, Wahoo and Hammerhead bike computers. Check the compatibility of your own device if you want to use Favero’s advanced cycling dynamics in addition to standard power and cadence data.

The Favero Assioma app is used to activate the pedals, adjust their settings and install firmware updates.

Why buy the MX-2 from Toni’s online store?

You are buying from a Finnish online retailer and can ask for advice from someone who uses the same pedals in their own training and racing.

I have tested the MX-2 pedals extensively in Finnish conditions. I can help you choose the correct pedals, set them up and make use of power data in your training.

You will also receive Toni Tähti Training’s Power Meter Pedal Guide as a free PDF. The guide covers interpretation of power data and the use of a power meter in training.
