Chain waxing loses much of its convenience if every top-up means removing the chain and heating a wax pot. SILCA Super Secret 2.0 puts a clean waxed drivetrain and low friction into a drip bottle. Apply it to the rollers, let it cure and ride.
This is an emulsified wax lubricant rather than a conventional oil with wax in the name. The formula combines SILCA's tungsten disulfide, or WS2, with new fullerene friction modifiers and smaller wax particles. The lubricant works into the chain joints and dries to a clean wax film that attracts far less road dust than a wet oil.
What changed in version 2.0?
SILCA rates one application for roughly 350-400 km depending on conditions or until the chain becomes noisy. That is about 20% longer than the original Super Secret. In SILCA's wet and muddy testing the new formula lasted twice as long as version 1.0 while reducing drivetrain losses by a further 0.6-0.8 watts.
Use Super Secret 2.0 as the chain's main lubricant or as a quick top-up between hot-wax treatments. It is the practical option when you want wax performance without removing the chain for every service.
How to apply SILCA Super Secret 2.0
- Start with a clean chain. Wipe a previously waxed chain. Fully strip and dry a previously oiled chain or a new chain with factory grease.
- Shake the bottle well.
- Cross-chain slightly to help the wax reach the rollers.
- Apply one drop to every roller while slowly backpedalling.
- Turn the chain through several more revolutions to distribute the wax.
- Leave it to cure for at least four hours. Overnight is ideal.
Drip wax or hot wax?
Choose Super Secret 2.0 for easy application on the bike, a clean drivetrain and long service intervals. Immersion waxing remains the cleanest and longest-lasting wax method. Super Secret 2.0 gives you a much quicker way to maintain a waxed chain and works well between hot-wax treatments.
Frequently asked questions
Does the chain need to be cleaned first?
Yes. Wax needs a clean metal surface. Old oil and factory grease prevent the wax from bonding properly.
How long does it need to cure?
At least four hours. Apply it after a ride and leave it overnight when possible.
Can it be used on a hot-waxed chain?
Yes. It is suitable as a top-up wax and does not require solvent cleaning before the chain is immersed in hot wax again.
How often should I reapply it?
SILCA states about 350-400 km per application depending on conditions. Reapply sooner if the chain becomes noisy or after especially wet and dirty rides.
