Choose wax remover when old kick wax needs to come off before a fresh application. Rex Wax Remover 170 ml is intended for removing grip wax. Rex also lists Nanogrip, Optigrip and Zero grip bases as suitable cleaning applications.

Kick-wax removal and routine glide-base maintenance are different jobs. For cleaning and priming the glide zones, choose SISU Glide Cleaner. A skin ski’s mohair insert has its own Skin Cleaner.

Removing kick wax

  1. Identify the kick zone and lift off loose excess wax with a suitable wax scraper.
  2. Apply Wax Remover to a clean fibre cloth and wipe the intended area.
  3. Collect the loosened wax in the cloth, changing to a clean section as it fills up.
  4. Continue until the unwanted wax and dirt have been removed. Let the surface dry completely before rewaxing and follow the container’s instructions.

Do not spread the old wax back

A cloth saturated with wax can redistribute residue instead of collecting it. Change cloths and keep kick-wax tools separate from those used to finish the glide zones.

Fresh base wax or grip wax belongs on a cleaned, dry surface. Adding more liquid does not replace removing the thick excess layer that can already be scraped away.

Identify the type of grip area

Nanogrip, Optigrip and Zero bases are not the same construction as a glued-in skin insert. Choose by the ski’s actual grip system rather than assuming that every waxless ski uses the same cleaner. Use Skin Cleaner for the skin.

This is a 170 ml liquid container, not the spray version. A fibre cloth and, when needed, a plastic wax scraper complete a basic removal kit. Keep using suitable tools you already own.
