Rex Arctic Chain Lube V2 is a Finnish wax-based winter bicycle chain lubricant developed for frost, snow, slush and salted roads. Its viscosity is optimised for cold conditions, allowing the lubricant to remain functional at temperatures down to -30°C.

The updated V2 formula contains more wax together with melted Rex hot wax. It is completely PFAS-free, solvent-free and undiluted.

What is new in version 2?

Rex Arctic V2 uses a completely PFAS-free formula. The wax content has been increased and Rex hot wax is melted directly into the lubricant.

The updated formula offers improved water resistance and is less affected by changes in temperature. It retains the cold-weather fluidity and corrosion protection required for winter cycling.

Developed for frost, snow and road salt

During winter, a bicycle chain is repeatedly exposed to water, snow, freezing temperatures and road salt. The cold-optimised viscosity of Arctic V2 prevents the lubricant from congealing like a conventional thick wet lube.

Rex N-Kinetic hydrophobic polymers improve water resistance, helping the lubricating film remain inside the chain and supporting corrosion protection in demanding winter conditions.

Arctic V2 is particularly suitable for commuter bikes, fat bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes and e-bikes used throughout the winter.

Wax and oil hybrid technology

Arctic V2 is neither a conventional wet oil nor a drying emulsion wax. It combines wax and oil in a concentrated chain lubricant.

The wax component helps reduce dirt adhesion, while the oil component keeps the lubricant functional in cold and wet conditions. The formula is based on Rex Domestique chain lube but is specifically optimised for winter.

Every drop is active lubricant

Arctic V2 contains no added water or volatile solvent. There is no need to wait several hours for a carrier liquid to evaporate.

After the excess lubricant has been wiped from the outside of the chain, the bicycle is ready to ride. According to Rex, the compact 30-gram bottle provides approximately 30 applications.

Initial application

1. Clean and degrease the chain thoroughly.

2. Rinse the chain and allow it to dry completely.

3. Shake the Arctic V2 bottle vigorously.

4. Apply one drop to each chain roller while backpedalling.

5. Continue backpedalling for at least 3-4 complete revolutions to work the lubricant into the rollers.

6. Repeat the application once more.

7. Wipe all excess lubricant from the outside of the chain with a clean cloth.

The lubricant is needed inside the rollers. Excess lubricant left on the outer surface only collects unnecessary contamination.

Reapplication

Wipe the chain with a dry cloth or paper until the surface appears clean. Apply Arctic V2 to the rollers using the same method. Thorough cleaning is only required when the drivetrain is heavily contaminated.

The typical relubrication interval is approximately 50-500 kilometres depending on conditions. Wet snow, slush and road salt shorten the interval. The sound of a dry chain is usually the most practical indication that more lubricant is required.
