Rex classic ski grip wax kit: Base Wax, Original Blue, Blue Special and Universal Tar.
1/5

In stock. Delivery within Finland in 1-3 business days.

For waxable classic skis on tracks below freezing, this set provides a binder and three clear kick-wax choices. Start with Blue for ordinary freezing conditions, choose Blue Special for light frost or hard, worn tracks, and use Universal Tar across its broad frost range. Base Wax goes underneath; you do not need to layer all three kick waxes in one preparation.

What is included, and when to use it

IncludedRoleChoose it for
1 × Base Wax 190BinderImproving adhesion and wear resistance underneath the day's kick wax. No temperature range of its own.
1 × Original Blue 115−2 to −8 °CEveryday freezing conditions.
1 × Original Blue Special 120−1 to −4 °CA softer, grippier alternative to Blue for light frost and hard, worn tracks.
1 × Universal Tar 141−1 to −25 °CA tar-containing kick wax covering a broad freezing range.

All four products are included. Read the track surface as well as the thermometer: glazed, icy or wet tracks may call for the Liquid Klister Set. This set treats the kick zone; it includes neither glide wax nor skin-care products.

From cleaning to the first test

  1. Remove old grip wax that does not suit the conditions using a suitable scraper and wax remover. Wipe clean and let the kick zone dry.
  2. Lightly roughen the measured kick zone and remove the dust. Keep roughening and grip wax away from glide zones and skin inserts.
  3. Rub on a thin layer of Base Wax and work it firmly into place with a synthetic cork. The current Base Wax formula needs no heating for this method.
  4. Choose the day's wax from the table. Rub it on thinly and cork it smooth. Cork each layer separately. Rex's basic method generally uses 3–6 layers, depending on ski stiffness and conditions. Build height in the centre while keeping the ends thin.
  5. Test the skis. Add one thin, corked layer at a time if needed. These solid waxes have no liquid drying stage.

Equipment to have ready

A synthetic cork, roughening tool, suitable scraper, wax remover and cleaning cloth are not included. This grip-waxing method needs no iron, brush or extra topcoat.

Slipping, icing or drag?

Slipping immediately: check the wax choice and whether the kick zone contacts the snow. Add suitable kick wax sparingly rather than thickening the binder. Extra wax may not solve an overly stiff ski.

Grip fades during the outing: check cleaning and how well Base Wax was worked in. Icing: remove the ice and reassess the snow surface and wax softness. Adding more over an excessively soft or thick layer can make it worse.

Drag: check wax thickness and the length of the kick zone. Remove excess grip wax. If the kick zone is not causing the drag, the glide zones need separate attention; the Easy Glide Without an Iron Set is an option for that job.
