Choose the synthetic cork to spread freshly applied grip wax into an even layer. Rex 612 is a classic ski waxing tool for the stage after wax application, once base preparation is complete.

If you still need to roughen the bare kick zone, choose a separate roughening cork. The smoothing cork does not replace that abrasive tool. Glide zones also have a different finishing routine, using the brush specified for the glide wax.

Smoothing a grip-wax layer

1. Prepare the correct kick zone and add any foundation layer according to the wax instructions.
2. Apply a thin layer of grip wax suited to the snow.
3. Spread the layer evenly with the cork. Keep the work within the kick zone and check for thick patches.
4. Add another thin layer only after smoothing the previous one, if required by the waxing instructions and grip needs.
5. Remove accumulated wax from the cork before its next use. Keep grip-wax tools separate from glide-finishing equipment.

Too much wax at once?

Several thin layers are easier to control than one thick, uneven application. Correct lumps before covering them with more wax. Corking harder cannot make an unsuitable wax match the snow conditions.

If the ski slips, also check kick-zone length, wax selection and ski fit. If it drags, check for an overly thick coating or icing. The cork evens out the wax; it cannot solve every grip or glide problem.

What else belongs in the kit?

Choose an appropriate grip wax and a base wax beneath it when needed. An existing, undamaged smoothing cork can keep doing the job. This is not an essential tool for someone using only liquid glide wax.

Supplied as one synthetic waxing cork. It is not a skin-care tool or a sanding block for the base.
